Between the 6th April and 11th May the Brewhouse Arts Centre will be hosting the Burton and District Arts Council’s (BADAC) 11th annual Art and Craft Exhibition. This is an open arts exhibition in which anyone in East Staffordshire can submit work to be displayed.
This year the BADAC exhibition will be a small pictures, art and craft exhibition so the work must be no bigger than 410mm square or if 3D must fit in to the dimensions of a 410mm cube. It can be in any media; textiles, painting, drawing, collage, photography, ceramics, sculpture, woodwork, jewellery, other crafts, text even. There is a £3 fee for each piece of work submitted. Wall based work must be framed and mirror plated, if it’s for sale the price should include The Brewhouse’s commission. All work must be dropped off at The Brewhouse between 10am and 3pm on Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd March. As well as getting the opportunity to exhibit and potentially sell work, there are four cash awards to be won for ‘The Best in Show’, ‘Prize for Innovation’, a ‘Young Person’s Award’ and the ‘People’s Choice’ Award.
BADAC is an organisation run by volunteers and was set up to support the arts in Burton. As well as putting on the annual exhibition they also run a bursary scheme for young people who have professional arts aspirations and act as an agent for the distribution of ESBC small grant aid to Voluntary Arts Groups.
Councillor Bernard Peters, Deputy Leader for Service Commissioning, said: “It’s really important to be putting on a community exhibition that embraces all the creative work going on in this area. It doesn’t matter if people are just starting out, creating art as a pass time or are professional artists; we encourage them to submit work. We’d love to see more people taking part so if they’re creating 2D or 3D artwork, we’d like to hear from them!”
“The Brewhouse Arts Centre has a changing programme of exhibitions designed to bring a broad range of Art and Craft to Burton, from community exhibitions such as the BADAC exhibition to more contemporary work. Currently there are exhibitions on by Aleksandr Goncharov a Burton artist formerly from Rostov on Don in Russia and Maryam Ovais who took part in the hugely successful three day event ‘Exhibition Islam’ organised by The Midlands Muslim Society”.
