East Staffordshire Borough Council’s Sports Development Team is set to offer some all new “Back to Hockey” sessions. Back to Hockey provides a gentle introduction or re-introduction to the game of hockey and is open to all women from 14 years onwards, whether you’ve played before or not. The sessions will start on Wednesday 22nd May and continue until Wednesday 26th June 2013 between 6.30pm and 7.30pm. The sessions will take place at Shobnall Leisure Complex and cost just £1.00 per session.
If you enjoyed playing hockey at school, college or university and would love to start playing again, then Back to Hockey is for you. The sessions will involve six weeks of coaching and playing small sided games. It doesn’t matter if it is your first time playing hockey or if you haven’t played hockey for 20 years. It’s a great way for you to get fit, have some fun and learn a new skill, without the pressure to perform in a club or league.
The project has helped establish partnerships with three local hockey clubs, Barton Hockey Club, Burton Hockey Club and Wulfric Ladies Hockey Club, who are all looking to welcome new players.
Patricia Newman said “Back to Hockey is a different way to get fit and lose weight and still feel part of a fun team. Anyone wanting to play can just turn up with loose clothing and trainers. Sticks and balls will be provided”
The Back to Hockey sessions are part of the Adult Learners Week, which aims to inspire thousands of people each year to discover how learning can change their lives. One of this year’s themes is to learn through Sport and Leisure. This project has been partly funded through Staffordshire Adult Learners week.
These sessions once again show the Councils commitment to providing healthy opportunities to our residents through the Healthy Borough initiative.
