THE MEADOWSIDE LEISURE CENTRE IS HOSTING THE WORLD’S BIGGEST FUNDRAISING SWIM
Date: 28th April 2013
Time: 2 sessions – 1st 9.00am to 1.00pm and 2nd 1.30pm to 4.00pm
Swimmers in Burton will make a splash for charity on the 28th April as they complete Swimathon 2013 at the Meadowside Leisure Centre. Swimmers will be helping to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care through Swimathon’s established 5k, 2.5k, 1.5k and Team 5k/1.5k Distance Challenges. The Meadowside is one of more than 600 pools nationwide hosting Swimathon 2013 sessions.
Hayley Milton, the Meadowside’s Swimathon Co-ordinator said: “It’s going to be fantastic to see so many people in our community getting in the pool to take on a challenge. People taking part will be having fun, as well as raising money for a great cause.
Through the Council’s Healthy Borough initiative, ESBC continues to show its commitment to providing healthy opportunities to our residents. This is yet another opportunity for residents to exercise, socialise and get fit.”
Your fundraising efforts will help Marie Curie nurses to provide free hands-on care for over 31,000 people with terminal illnesses and vital emotional support to their loved ones, at home or in one of the charity’s nine hospices.
Olympic swimming legend and Swimathon President, Duncan Goodhew, said: “Following a fantastic Olympic year, it’s important that sports such as swimming continue to be in the limelight. Looking to improve on a record breaking Swimathon year in 2012, we’d love to add to the half a million people who have taken part so far, by asking everyone to dive into pools up and down the country. These amazing people have raised over £38 million for charity to date!”
Entry for Swimathon 2013 closes on Wednesday 24 April 2013. To enter, sponsor a swimmer, or to find out more please visit www.swimathon.org.
