Unlike many of his young contemporaries, Ben has avoided the experimental and avant-garde in favour of his true love – jazz with melody and swing and with this new recording, he has nailed his musical colours firmly to mast by interpreting a raft of pieces either composed or often performed by the master of jazz and classical clarinet – Benny Goodman. Simply arranged, beautifully played and recorded live, his new CD recording showcases Ben’s talents as a performer and arranger. Utterly energetic, technically challenging and at times achingly beautiful, this album really does take twelve very fine melodies and sprinkle them with modern feeling – still recognisable, still foot-tappingly rhythmic, yet refreshed.
