East Staffordshire Borough Council’s Sports Development Team has received £79,074 from their grant aid application to Staffordshire County Council’s Aiming High Capital Fund.
This project will provide the infrastructure to offer ‘Disabled Cycling’ to families across the Borough and is the first of its kind in the County.
The application will allow ESBC to purchase 16 adapted bikes, 16 non adapted bikes and a storage facility allowing families to cycle around Shobnall Leisure Complex. Training for staff is also included, ensuring families are shown safe usage of the adapted bikes.
This project will also link to the British Cycling ‘Skyride’ initiative that the council has committed to this year.
Councillor Bernard Peters, Deputy Leader for Service Commissioning, said: “This is fantastic news for families across East Staffordshire who will be able to cycle on adapted and non adapted bikes in a safe environment.
“Through the Council’s Healthy Borough initiative, ESBC continues to show its commitment to providing sporting and healthy opportunities to our residents. This is yet another exiting opportunity for residents to exercise and get fit.”
