East Staffordshire Borough Council is the first local authority in Staffordshire to be awarded the gold level for the Workplace Health Programme organised by Staffordshire Public Health.
The Workplace Health Programme aims to provide staff and local residents with healthy outcomes and improve their quality of life as well as supporting economic growth, employment and skills.
To achieve the gold level, East Staffordshire Borough Council had to ensure that various procedures and working arrangements were in place including the support and development of staff, innovation and engagement with the local community as well as showing corporate social responsibility.
The Council has engaged with staff through workplace health initiatives including health assessments, healthy eating and lifestyle advice and quit smoking support.
More broadly, the Council has utilised the leisure facilities to provide social activities including netball, football, running and lunchtime walks.
Andy O’Brien, Chief Executive, said: “Members of the workplace health group have ensured that both Council staff and East Staffordshire residents have had the advice and opportunities to lead a healthy lifestyle. As a result of workplace health initiatives and our workplace health strategy the Council has reduced sickness absence.”
