The 5th – 11th May is International Compost Awareness Week.  The week is all about promoting, making and using compost at home.  Compost is made by allowing organic material such as food scraps and garden waste to decompose with lots of air moving around them.  It is a natural process that has been going on for millions of years.  It is an inexpensive, natural process that transforms your kitchen and garden waste into a valuable and nutrient rich food for your garden. It’s easy to make and use.

Although around a third of households already compost at home we need more to get involved with home composting.  Over one third of the average household bin can be composted.  Every year we throw away millions of tons of organic waste and much of this finds its way into landfill sites where it decomposes and gives off gases that pollute the environment.  By composting at home you can create your own compost for your garden and have fun doing it.

This Compost Awareness Week we are encouraging everyone to give composting a go.  If you are interested in home composting and would like to give it a go then visit www.getcomposting.com to find out more.

For those interested in trying home composting, now is the perfect time to get started.  If you live in East Staffordshire you can purchase home compost bins for as little as £19.98 for the 220 litre compost converter model and £22.98 for a larger compost converter at 330 litres.  For further information about these products, please call: – 0844 571 4444 or visit www.getcomposting.com
