Sat 24th July – The Anglesey Community Games
Jun 24th, 2010 | By Chris Towland | Category: Whats OnResidents from across East Staffordshire are being invited to the Anglesey ward in Burton for a special day of events on Saturday, July 24th.
Organised by East Staffordshire Borough Council, the Anglesey Community Games are being held to celebrate the multi-cultural communities in and around East Staffordshire and particularly in Anglesey.
The event will be held at the Queen’s Street Community Centre, Anglesey School field and surrounding areas from 10.00am to 4.00pm.
Visitors can take part in a range of traditional games and the opportunity to try more diverse challenges such as rodeo bull riding or more relaxed events like a knitting competition.
A relaxing health walk will also be taking place around the washlands with a qualified walk leader. Walkers can meet at Watson Street, outside Thurco Engineering limited, behind Tesco, at 1.00pm.
Councillor Bernard Peters, Deputy Leader for Service Commissioning, said: “Burton’s Anglesey ward is a wonderful example of people from a wide-variety of cultures working and living together and these Community Games will allow people from other parts of the borough to come down and experience that atmosphere whilst enjoying a free, family fun day filled with activities that will keep them both entertained and healthy.”
The event will also be looking for talented performers to take part in the Queen Street’s Got Talent show, which will also be held on the day, as well as offering visitors the chance to try out different cuisines from a variety of cultures.
Anyone who would like to take part in the culinary challenge or Queen Street’s Got Talent show is asked to contact Kirsty Smith at the Sports Development office on 01283 505917.
