Walkers Go Batty for Nature Talk

The Staffordshire Bat Group are offering East Staffordshire residents a fascinating insight in to the world of bats during a special talk and walk event on Monday, May 12th.

The evening will begin at 7.30pm in the Dove room at Burton Town Hall, with an educational talk and slide show before a mini bus transports walkers to nearby Dallow Lock for a stroll alongside the Trent & Mersey canal, where walkers will have the opportunity to operate a bat detector and to search of these creatures of the night.

Walkers will also be helping to collect data for the Community led ‘Kingfisher Project’, that is trying to improve the natural environment along the canal corridor.

The group are hoping to put an end to the myths that have been associated with bats and convince people that they are actually fascinating creatures.

Kevin Reynolds, spokesman for the Staffordshire Bat Group, said: “We hope this talk will help dispell the myths about bats.

“They are very clean animals who eat huge quantities of insects that otherwise would be biting us.

“British bats definitley don’t  drink our blood, but they do eat the insects that might be drinking it, so come along and find out why it is so important to conserve our flying friends.”

The cost for the evening is £2 for adults and children go free. For more information call the Parks and countryside team at East Staffordshire Borough Council on 01283 508657.
