The proper name for the town is of course Burton upon Trent but most Burtonians would say Burton on Trent which is in fact just a shortening of the original name.

Based in East Staffordshire, Burton has for centuries been an important brewing centre with the Bass brewery (now Coors), Marstons, Ind Coope and smaller breweries such as The Bridge Brewery all being located in the town.

As well as the ‘upon’ or ‘on’ saga, there is also ofen discussion as to whether Burton is actually in the West Midlands or East Midlands but it is in fact in the West Midlands (for this week at least!)
