Whats On in Burton on Trent This Weekend….
Image via Wikipedia* what’s on in Burton This Weekend *
Tonight, there’s the usual Thursday choice of live music with Terry Brunt’s Good Boys appearing at Burton Jazz Club and the Vince Clayton Duo performing at Northern Renegades Country Music Club. Isn’t it incredible that two artists got together to form a group and they were both called Vince Clayton?
Tomorrow (Friday) there’s a 3 mile walk in Dunstall (near barton), a Dance Showcase at The Brewhouse performed by local dance schools and community groups and Burton Folk Club present live music from Mike Freeman and Tania Opland who are described as an ‘Anglo-Alaskan duo’ …. which is probably not something you see every day in Burton!
On Saturday, the high flying Brewers are at home to Crawley Town and there is a Pop Spectacular Charity Event at Burton Town Hall. This live music event gives you the chance to see Tilted Smile, Junction, The Cloth and Pugma-Ho as well as assisting Marie Curie Cancer Care. Also on Saturday there is the chance to take part in a conker tournament at The Devonshire Arms. All conkers are supplied (although you may wish to bring your own safety helmet) and proceeds are being donated to the Air Ambulance.
On Sunday there is a country and western day at Uttoxeter Racecourse where although you’re unlikely to see Dolly Parton bouncing over the jumps, there are sure to be a few cowboys present … as well as 7 exciting races.
The annual Statutes Fair is then in town next Monday and Tuesday.
cineworld cinema highlights this week include ‘88 Minutes’, ‘How to Lose Friends and Alienate People’, ‘Taken’, ‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’Righteous Kill’, and ‘Mamma Mia’.
As usual, details of all the above can be found on the InBurton what’s on page.
That’s yer lot for today, have a great weekend!
Best regards,
Chris

Whats On in Burton on Trent This Weekend….
* what’s on in Burton This Weekend (18th to 21st September 2008) *
There’s the usual choice of Thursday live music tonight with Arizona Wes appearing at the Northern Renegades Country Music Club and Richard Leach’s 7 Stars of Jazz at Burton Jazz Club.
I’m not sure but I think there’s also a chance to see some talking plants tonight as Burton Gardening Club are holding an event entitled ‘Alpines - Some of my Favourite Plants -Talk’
Finally tonight (as well as tomorrow and Saturday) there’s the Burton Beer Festival at the Town Hall where you have the chance to sample over 90 Real Ales, Ciders and Continental Beers. There’s also live music and refreshments.
Tomorrow (Friday) there’s a morning walk in Newborough with East Staffs Ramblers which would be an ideal way to clear your head if you’ve been on the pop at the Beer Festival tonight!
On Saturday there’s a chance to be Pavarotti (except more alive!) at an operatic workshop, rehearsal and concert in stapenhill. The Sitwell Singers from Derbyshire (I’m sure they ‘Singwell’ too) invite you to take part in their performance of Rossini’s “Petite Messe Solenelle”.
Sunday sees the start of ‘Use Your Paths Week’ where we’re all encouraged to get out for a walk and enjoy some of the lovely footpaths in the area. This is a great idea if the weather stays as it is today because the Burton area has some wonderful countryside paths, pretty village paths and just the odd one or two of the psycho variety! Sunday’s walk starts at Hoar Cross and incorporates Tatenhill Airfield so make sure you keep your head down on this part of the walk!
There’s also racing day at Uttoxeter Racecourse with a medieval theme and a Spirit of Destiny Day at tutbury Castle with clairvoyants and mediums. Something I’ve always wondered about …. If you’re holding an event and want a clairvoyant to be there … do you need to ring up to book them … or will they just know they need to be there???
cineworld cinema highlights this week include ‘Disaster Movie’, ‘Get Smart’, ‘Pineapple Express’, ‘RocknRolla’, ‘The Duchess’ and ‘Mamma Mia’.
As usual, details of all the above can be found on the InBurton what’s on page HERE.
* It’s now FREEEEEEEEE!!! *
It’s now totally free to add an event to the InBurton what’s on page so if you know anyone who is holding an event, or you go to a pub or club and want their events to appear on InBurton, then tell them to visit the what’s on page for full details.
That’s yer lot for today, have a great weekend!
Best regards,
Chris

Uttoxeter Racecourse Manager on The Weakest Link
RACECOURSE MANAGER IS THE STRONGEST LINK
HE’S used to watching winners at his day job, but Uttoxeter Racecourse’s General Manager David MacDonald proved to be a winner himself when he took on TV quiz host Anne Robinson on The Weakest Link.
The stern interrogator may have made him imitate a horse jumping a fence, but he eventually emerged victorious – and £1,380 richer.
David had been keeping the outcome secret from friends and colleagues since the show was recorded several months ago, but it was finally broadcast on Tuesday afternoon (16 SEPTEMBER).
A cool head, and some inspirational answers, kept him in good stead during the contest on BBC1.
“It felt fantastic to win,” he said after taking the tiebreaker by two questions to one, and with one question still in hand.
“I was nervous about taking on Anne Robinson. She has a scary reputation, but I held my own.”
David even had to answer one horse racing question about the former jockey and broadcaster Brough Scott. He got it correct.
Back at work, the boss of Uttoxeter Racecourse is now looking forward to Sunday’s Medieval Raceday, the first family funday since the summer. Racing starts at 2.20pm.
