Helping Hand for New Polish Residents
Polish families who are arriving to live in East Staffordshire are being given a helping hand to help them settle easier into their new country.
East Staffordshire Borough Council has been working with partners in the Police, Fire and Health care services and County Council to write a Welcome Booklet, which has been translated into Polish, to help our new residents get to grips with the way things are done in this country that might be different from their own.
Information in the booklet includes the differences between emergency healthcare and illnesses that can be taken to a GP, advice on renting from private landlords and different services that the Council’s provide from education to bin collection.
Councillor Julia Jessel, Deputy Leader for the Council, said: “This is a wonderful tool provided by the Council to help our new Polish residents integrate more easily into our country’s way of life and establish themselves in East Staffordshire’s society.
“The smallest difference in the way things are done can make life difficult when you arrive in a new country and the information provided in this booklet should help these families with the important things they need to know in their first few weeks of arriving here, from how to get their children enrolled in the local school to what to do in an emergency.”
The Welcome Booklet is available to download from the Council’s website at www.eaststaffsbc.gov.uk.
