Plan to Develop Arts Goes to Public

Residents across Burton on Trent and East Staffordshire are being encouraged to have their say on new proposals to develop the borough?s Arts scene.

The Council?s Arts East Staffs, based at Burton?s Brewhouse Arts Centre, is currently developing a strategy to deliver a more focused arts service for the next three years.

Three main priorities have been identified in the strategy; expanding the provision of and supporting the development of live events and festival within the borough, improving marketing to reach wider audiences and ensuring Art East Staffs provides a service that is accessible to all.

Councillor Bernard Peters, Deputy Leader for Environment and Leisure, said: “The Council is now looking to focus its efforts into improving the arts service, targeting the „wishes? as highlighted by our residents in an earlier consultation.

“Wishes included more live events, more professional artists visiting the town and new facilities or better use of the old one, all of which we are looking to support and promote in this exciting strategy.

“Our aim is to make East Staffordshire a place that is not only welcoming and inviting to people who live, work in or visit the area, but to actively encourage people from outside the borough to come and spend time here.”

The draft Arts Strategy is now available to view on the Council?s website at www.eaststaffsbc.gov.uk, or hard copies can be picked up from the Brewhouse, Customer Service Centres in Uttoxeter and Burton or the town Hall reception, and the team would welcome public participation.

To have your say on the strategy, simply complete the questionnaire online via the Council?s website, or again hard copies will be available with the strategy at the offices above.

The deadline for responses is Friday, March 12th, 2010.
