Council Calls for Financial Reviewers
Feb 4th, 2010 | By Editor | Category: Burton StuffIndependent financial experts are being sought to sit on East Staffordshire Borough Council’s Audit Committee and play a vital role in the running of the Council.
East Staffordshire Borough Council’s Audit Committee operates in accordance with CIPFA’s guidance, which is recognised as an essential element of good governance.
The Council is now looking to appoint two people with financial expertise such as an accounting, internal audit or financial management background, to join the Audit Committee.
Candidates need to have excellent communication skills and understand the importance of the role that the Audit Committee plays within the Council, but they must not have been Member or Officer of East Staffordshire Borough Council, or of any Town or Parish Council within the Borough’s area, or a relative or close friend of a Member or Officer of the Council within the last five years.
An application pack is available from www.eaststaffsbc.gov.uk or email jobs@eaststaffsbc.gov.uk.
Alternatively you can call 01283 508704 to ask about a form, or visit the Customer Services Centre, Market Place, Burton.
The role of independent members on the committee is considered to be important by the Council. Its committee currently has nine members in total, all of whom are elected Members of the Council.
Independent members are expected to attend around four Audit Committee meetings each year. Meetings are usually held at the Town Hall at 6.30pm. You would also be expected to prepare for meetings by reading the papers for those meetings.
In addition, to assist you and the Audit Committee as a whole, training sessions will be provided, which all members of the Audit Committee will be required to attend. The Council will reimburse travel and subsistence expenses.
