Carers Week in Burton on Trent
Campaign Targets Carers
Carers Week 9 – 16 June
Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service are targeting people who look after the elderly and vulnerable during Carers Week for the next stage in their “MORE for Less campaign.”
The Service launched its MORE for Less campaign last week – they’re aiming to carry out more home fire risk checks to result in less fire deaths. 100,000 credit style cards have been produced for carers in the County – the brightly coloured cards give the FREEPHONE number to ring to request a free home fire risk check. From next week the cards are going to be distributed to up to 80,000 carers in the County as part of National Carers Week.
Mick Archer, Area Commander for East Staffordshire says, “Carers are in people’s homes on a daily basis and so they are in an ideal position to identify those who are vulnerable and may be at risk from fire. If we don’t know about these people we can’t help them so we are urging carers to do their bit by ringing the number on the card.
“We already have a system in place with the City and County Council whereby we’ve trained all of their social care workers to contact us with referrals, however we’ve realised that there are still thousands of private and voluntary sector carers who perhaps aren’t aware of what we do. Hopefully these cards will raise awareness amongst carers; they really do have an important role to play in assisting us with driving down fire deaths in the County.”
