Burton Car Park Prices to Increase
Proposed Change in Car Parking Prices for Burton
Council car parks in Burton upon Trent could see a few changes in the next couple of months as the Authority considers increasing prices for the first time in three and a half years. This is the first major review of the car parking prices since 2004 and aims to simplify the pricing structure in the town.
East Staffordshire Borough Council operates nine pay and display car parks in Burton – Cooper’s Square (Surface and Roof Top), Burton Place, High Street, Meadowside, The Library, Bond Street, Fleet Street and New Street.
Following a review of the existing pricing structure, a decision has been made to increase parking charges in the town. This will equate to a rise from 60p to 80p for an hour-long stay and £1.20 to £1.60 for up to three-hours. The Council has also taken the opportunity to simplify the tariff structure by adopting a pricing policy based on hourly increments in all the car parks. This will provide greater flexibility for drivers and enable the Council to readily monitor performance and usage.
“East Staffordshire Borough Council has put a lot of time and thought into the best way to make our car parks both useful and attractive to local residents and shoppers from out of town,” said Councillor Robert Hardwick, Deputy Leader for Development and Regeneration.
“We have endeavoured to find a balance that provides benefits for both the drivers who are travelling into town and businesses who want to encourage people to Burton.
“For example, the Council is currently working hard on the delivery of a major refurbishment scheme for the Burton Place car park and the additional income generated through a rise in tariffs will enable the Authority to further invest in the car park infrastructure, which will in turn benefit the town’s economy.”
The Council is also proposing setting up an annual sinking fund to further improve the maintenance of car parks.
It is proposed that the charges will come into effect from 1st November 2007.
