Celebration of Andy Parkers Life
Friday 30th March
Parkerhousen // Wakan Tanka // Jason Davis // Harry Parker // Great Scott
Doors 7pm Entry £3
Tonight/this night has been organised as a memorial to Andy and a celebration of his life: his passion was music, and all the bands playing tonight have family members or friends in them: Parkerhousen, Wakan Tanka, Jason Davis, Harry Parker, Great Scott.
Andy died on New Years Eve 2011 of mesothelioma, a type of lung cancer ONLY caused by exposure to asbestos. It is incurable, aggressive and with a life expectancy of one year from diagnosis – Andy lived for just 8 months. Ticket and raffle money from tonight will be divided between Mesothelioma UK and DAST (Derbyshire Asbestos Support Team), whose help has been invaluable to his family.
Andy was a well-known figure in Burton and South Derbyshire, having been a journalist at the Burton Mail for nearly 30 years. Many other people knew him through his innumerable interests: managing local football teams; Gresley Rovers; an aficionado of the local music scene from the 70s to the present; a 70s DJ; nature, in particular bird watching; local history … and the list goes on. He had abundant energy and knowledge of his patch, making things happen, instead of just talking about it. Let’s make it happen for him tonight!
