Yes, we are back on the road following an enforced break and a line-up change. I am very pleased to welcome to The Dissenters the awesome Howard Smith on guitar and the rock solid Graham Summers on drums.
I played with both these guys about ten years ago in a great band called
The Long Horns doing Tex -Mex style Americana. They both feature strongly on my Valley Boy album (2002). I am so pleased to be working with them again. The ever faithful and highly talented Steve Cooke is still on bass.
Howard Smith
Best known as wizard guitarist and front man for his own band The Razors.
Howard is a stylish guitar player and an exceptional slide player. You won’t get shredding or flash from Howard, he is a less is more guy who can turn it on big style when required.
Graham Summers
A great singer / songwriter in is own right. Graham fronts his own band Jewellers Eye (from behind drums.) A super tight drummer and a excellent singer, Graham is a class act all round.
New Songs for a new album
We have been working hard on a new set of Dawson songs. So much has happened since my last full album (The River Road 2005)
Loads of great gigs and road miles with The Dissenters which yielded a cooking live album (Smokin’ In Public 2008). I wrote, produced and released an album of songs based on the epic Welsh novels by Alexander Cordell (The Cordell Collection 2007), which was a mammoth task but a truly wonderful experience.
I got to meet and sometimes gig with some of my heroes including Dan Baird, Jason & The Scorchers, Tom Russell, Kevin Welch, Bap Kennedy, Stacie Collins, Seth Lakeman and got to play with some amazing musicians and singers at local gigs and sessions. There have been break-ups and make-ups, tears and laughs, a few friends and relatives have departed and load of new friends have been made.
The two tours with Tommy Womack were a complete blast and a great learning experience. Obviously all this goes in to my tiny brain and eventually
some of it’s going to come out, so after far too long I took my bucket to the well of song and wrote an albums worth of new material. The new band have worked hard to knock them into shape and the studio is booked for May 2011.
We are taking the new songs along with the best of the rest on the road so please come and have a listen and see us put all this hard work to good use.
