Young Burton Dancers Head to Norway for Cultural Exchange
Jul 19th, 2010 | By Chris Towland | Category: Burton StuffYoung dancers from a Burton-based group are heading off to Norway next month, as part of a cultural exchange scheme.
Burton Youth Dance (BYD) is taking part in the exchange with their Norwegian equivalent – the Rebell Youth Dance Company which is based in Oslo.
The 15 lucky youngsters will be in Norway for a week from Monday, August 2nd.
The trip, which is funded through Youth for Europe will give fantastic opportunities for the entire group and three local dance teachers to experience youth dance life in Norway.
They will take part in shared classes, plus enjoy tours of Oslo, camping, cooking and plenty of sightseeing. The activities will culminate in a shared performance at the end of the week.
Councillor Bernard Peters, Deputy Leader for Service Commissioning, said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for the young members of BYD to experience a new country and new culture.
“They will get to make new friends and share experiences with other young people who share a love of dancing, tell them about the work they do with the Brewhouse and what life is like in East Staffordshire, and hopefully return full of inspiration.”
BYD is part of the East Staffs Dance Collective (ESDC) programme. ESDC is an initiative set up by the Arts Team at East Staffordshire Borough Council and the East Staffs School Sport Partnership. It aims to create exciting new opportunities for young people.
