Burton’s historic Stapenhill Gardens have been added to the growing list of East Staffordshire’s Green Flag sites in this year’s round of prestigious awards.

The award-winning gardens celebrated its new Green Flag status on Wednesday, July 28th with a special flag raising ceremony attended by East Staffordshire Mayor, Councillor David Leese and Mayoress Mrs Liz Leese.

Stapenhill Gardens is joined this year by Branston Water Park, which has picked up its sixth consecutive Green Flag, and community project the Kingfisher Trail supported by community led Kingfisher Project, which has maintained its flag for the third year running.

Councillor Leese said: “The popularity of Green Flags is growing every year. More and more they are being recognised by people as the national standard for green spaces and people are travelling further to visit these award-winning sites.

“Winning a Green Flag is not an easy exercise. There are many different judging criteria to satisfy like community involvement where local volunteers, including regular teams from Molson Coors and Slic Training have given many hours of work to enhance the park.

“High standards of grounds maintenance are also required and this has been ably carried out by the dedicated team from English Landscapes.

“I am thrilled that East Staffordshire has added yet another site to our Green Flag parks list, and that both Branston Water Park and The Kingfisher Trail have retained their flags for another year, and congratulations to the Council team, English Landscapes and all the volunteers who put so much work into maintaining these sites for their communities.”
