Residents across East Staffordshire are being encouraged to “Give it a Grow” as part of the Council?s work to mark the tenth annual Compost Awareness Week, running from Sunday, May 2nd to Saturday, May 8th.
This year, the Recycle Now campaign and East Staffordshire Borough Council are encouraging people to try their hand at new composting activities in order to do their bit for the environment.
“Although around 30% of us already compost at home, there are lots more things we can all try,” explained Amy Cunnington, Recycling Officer.
“For example, around 60% of people say they have never tried home composting general household waste, such as scrunched up paper or the contents from a vacuum cleaner, and around 50% of people have never tried using peat free compost.
“This Compost Awareness Week East Staffordshire Borough Council is encouraging everyone to give composting a go.”
If you are interested in home composting and would like to find out more then why not come along to the Spring Festival on Sunday, May 9th from 12noon to 4.00pm to find out more as members of the Council?s Environment Services Team will be at the Spring Festival to promote Compost Awareness Week.
The team will be available to answer questions on recycling and general waste related queries.
Representatives will also be there to promote the Love Food Hate Waste campaign.
For anyone interested in trying home composting, now is the perfect time to get started.
If you live in East Staffordshire you can purchase home compost bins for as little as £14 for the 220 litre compost converter model and £17 for a larger compost converter at 330 litres.
