A Host, of Golden Daffodils

Request Following Flower Thefts at Shobnall

Residents in East Staffordshire are being asked not to take flowers growing in the area’s public parks so they can be enjoyed by others.

The request came after police and officers from ESBC had to caution an individual who had been witnessed taking daffodils from the displays at Shobnall fields.

“The flowers provide a tremendous lift to the town as we come out of the long winter months and are there for everyone to enjoy,” said Matthew Mardling, the Council’s Green Spaces Manager.

“Removing them can ruin the floral displays for other people and can be considered as theft of Council property and future offences could result in prosecution.

“In this case we felt the best outcome was to simply advise the offenders that what they had done was a criminal offence and leave it as that but we would like to take this opportunity to remind people that the floral displays are Council property and there for everyone to enjoy. We hope this message is effective and the thefts will not be repeated.”
