A local care home in Burton on Trent attracted the crowds last Saturday with a spectacular Summer Fayre, where a genuine Dot Cotton EastEnders script, a dress worn by Barbara Windsor, who played Peggy Mitchell on the show and several signed photographs by other cast members were auctioned off.

Elder Homes Group Rider House care home raised £1300, the most they have ever raised, which will go towards the residents’ activities fund. Dot Cottons EastEnders script went for £20 but the item that fetched the most was the Babara Windsor dress at £50.

Amongst the celebrity items Rider House also auctioned tickets for the Burton Albion and Derby County Football clubs and for those who were in need of a bit of pampered, a professional photography shoot and high tea at the Newton Park Hotel. Other fantastic items included a £45 vouchers for SpecSavers, Disney toys and a spectacular cake made by June Messenger, the mother of David Messenger, Managing Director of Elder Homes Group.

There was also a barbecue, raffle and many stalls offering bric-a-brac, live characture drawing, plants and arts and crafts, some of which were made by the residents at Elder Homes Group Rider House care home.

Ross Fox-Roberts, the manager at Elder Homes Group Rider House care home said that, ‘there was such a continuous stream of people, that halfway through the day we had to buy more burgers. This is one of the most successful fundraisers we have done and I would like to thank all the staff for their support and hard work.’
