Young volunteers from a Burton-based organisation have been brightening up a local nature spot in preparation for a free family fun day there next month.

Teenagers from the Juniper Training group spent two days – Monday and Tuesday, May 10th and 11th – revamping bridges and fencing at Brook Hollows in Rolleston on Dove, with a new lick of paint.

The work is part of Neighbourhood Working project to tidy up the Brook Hollows area and the campaign will culminate with a special family event there on Saturday, June 5th between 12.00noon and 3.00pm.

The event has been organised by the Neighbourhood Working and Green Spaces teams and will link in with the BBC’s Springwatch campaign, focusing on the need to protect and enjoy our precious woodland areas.

The family fun day will include nature trails, storytelling, pond dipping, bushcraft activities with the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust’s Wildplay team and a minibeast hunt. Community groups are encouraged to come along to the event and a small number of stalls will be available for local fundraising, recruiting and craft sales.

The Neighbourhood Working team have also arranged for a number of partners to be involved on the day including Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, Staffordshire Police, East Staffordshire Borough Council’s Recycling Team and Community Wardens, Rolleston Parish Council, the Staffordshire Youth Service, and the Community & Learning Partnership.
Councillor Julia Jessel, Deputy Leader for Communities, said: “This is a wonderful example of what can be done in our communities when partners work together.

“Re-painting bridges and fences may seem like a small job in the grand scale of things, but it can make a significant impact in the neighbourhood and hopefully we will get lots of visitors down to the family fun day who will be able to see this lovely area in all its glory and come back again in the future.”
